The Tools and Techniques for Student Mental Health courses for 2020/21 are now fully booked.

Managing mental health and wellbeing is a key part of thriving at university and we want students to have the knowledge and confidence to do this effectively. Mind has created this blended course of four weekly sessions and online learning to introduce students to tools and techniques that will help them manage their mental health during their studies and beyond.

The course has been adapted for students from Mind’s robustly-evaluated resilience course developed with the University of Oxford. The course has been designed to target:

  • early warning signs for stress;
  • vulnerability factors linked to longer term stress reactions;
  • social capital, and creates an opportunity to build a social network;

The online learning is designed to be a foundation for each interactive group taught session. The taught sessions then allow students to practise what they have learnt with the support of a Mind trainer and build connections with their peers.

90% of students who completed the course last year said they were more confident looking after their mental health and 100% would recommend it to a friend.

Who is this course for?

This course is for any undergraduate or postgraduate student who would like to learn practical ways to help them manage their mental health and wellbeing.

It would be beneficial to students who have identified that they need (or have been identified as needing) resources and information to support themselves. It isn’t suitable for people who might be experiencing high levels of distress or as a replacement for specific support for a mental health problem.


Sessions will be delivered online via the Zoom video conference platform. All online session are to be delivered by an experienced mental health trainer and a co-host.

Online learning will be in the form of an approx. 20-30 min interactive session with videos and activities. This will be sent to the students before each taught session.

Please note: this course is designed to help you to manage and improve your general mental health and wellbeing. It is not designed to support those who need medical support for a specific health condition, or who are experiencing a mental health crisis. In these circumstances, you can contact:
